"We do consider Diskeeper a vital tool. We run Diskeeper on all of our laptops and desktops as well as on our servers and believe it helps performance on the machines. We are just beginning to look into virtualization. Good to know you have a VMware connection. I would be glad to talk to anyone considering your product. We are running Diskeeper on a SAN and feel like we are getting a good product at a fair price.” "

"Do I consider Diskeeper a vital tool on our network? Without a doubt. I have been in situations in years past where large SAN arrays failed due to file system corruption. Once at that point, recovering info from the actual units in pointless and all you can do is pray that the Backup Administrators did their job. Since those times I have made it a point to ensure that the file system fragmentation is kept to a minimum, with the added bonus of being able to detect initial corruption earlier. After running Diskeeper EnterpriseServer on various servers in multiple configurations, I never had to worry about file system performance degradation. That in itself makes the product worthwhile. It is also why I make sure that we renew our licenses each year. Sometimes the hallmark of a software is how often you use it. With Diskeeper, its hallmark is that it does a fantastic job after setting it once and letting Diskeeper do what it does best, without further user interaction. "

"“The biggest benefits from Diskeeper have come from our main file cluster. With nearly 1.5TB of storage at about 52% full, data access was at the mercy of whenever I got the time to kick off a manual defrag job, (using built-in tool). Once we installed Diskeeper on the cluster, we discovered that our MFT's were severely undersized. Also, even though the built-in showed the drives as defragmented, there were still nearly 16,000 excess fragments and about 2000 file fragments. Diskeeper got rid of all the fragments, reorganized the folders, made the data contiguous (the built-in tried, but gave up), fixed the MFT's, and cut access times nearly in half. A 10MB file accessed from the network (dual Gigabyte network adapters) was taking around 10 additional seconds to load after the client application opened, (that's an eternity to most users). After running Diskeeper, that 10 seconds dropped to less than 3 additional seconds to load the file. On the IT side, the server disk I/O's dropped to 20% from around 84% and access times decreased by 2 times.” "

"I'd be more than happy to share my Diskeeper story. Currently, I'm running Diskeeper Server on these systems: Dell Poweredge 2350: Running Windows 2000 SP4. This server provides our Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, OWA, File Sharing, Print Services, APC Backup Monitoring, and various networking services (DNS, DHCP, etc). Dell Poweredge 2400: Running Windows 2003 Web Server Edition. Strictly runs IIS only, providing web services for internal applications (ASP/.NET), and internet facing websites that are either ASP or PHP based. Dell Poweredge 1900: Running Windows 2003 Standard R2. This server strictly runs MS SQL 2005, providing database services for internal applications and database back-end for various websites. I've been running Diskeeper on my systems since version 7. At that time, defragmentation was a manual (or scheduled) process, and to be quite honest, it was often overlooked due to other issues taking precedence. While I have no hard numbers, I can honestly say that we noticed a significant increase in performance. Not only did Diskeeper take care of fragmentation of files, but it also solved the problem of swap file fragmentation, which can severely effect performance as memory is swapped to disk. When we upgraded to Version 2009 earlier this year, it was a very simple install, set, and forget. Diskeeper has proved to be VERY valuable on our SQL server, as it's able to defragment our data stores which average about 60GB per database file. The I-FAAST feature keeps our disks running at optimal performance, which is crucial for busy database servers. Diskeeper utilizes very little CPU in my experience, and in fact only runs when CPU usage reaches a particular threshold. It's truly a "Set It and Forget It" tool that just works. I would challenge any administrator to download and install the Trialware version of Diskeeper and let it run throughout the trial, taking note of performance gains. Once the trial runs out and Diskeeper stops, the loss of performance will become evident in a short period of time. For me, Diskeeper takes disk performance out of my list of daily worries. "

"We are running Diskeeper on three of our production Terminal Servers and after running the product on these heavily fragmented systems they seem to have cleared most all of our lag issues related to fragmentation. I find that Diskeeper’s Automatic Defrag is truly set it and forget it. I do periodically check on it to make sure that it is indeed keeping things cleaned up. I have received no complaints from users after installing this product as it stays seamlessly out of the way of active work being done on the servers. Performance has definitely increased as a result of installing Diskeeper on our production Terminal servers. "

"I did manual defrags a couple times a month so my systems have always run well, but with the Diskeeper product, I just check to make sure everything is working once or twice a month and then move on. This saves a huge amount of time over the manual process. The desktops have shown a great improvement with less complaints from the users. Obviously I couldn’t run manual defrags on 200 desktops so the system stability and speed of the desktops has been great. Our site is very busy but on our web servers, Diskeeper only uses 28 Mb or so and very little processor time. With most systems yes this has been an improvement, with our systems that have tens of thousands (50,000-150,000 over mainly a 6 hour period) of file add, delete, change, replace operations it was using a huge amount of memory and processor we had to schedule when it would run and or sometime shut it down. On just about every other system (server and workstation) there has been a great improvement. With using Diskeeper the systems don’t have to work as hard for the same results with of course speeds up the system, less corruption of files, etc. We use Diskeeper on laptops, desktops and servers. Diskeeper 2009 does a better job on our high volume systems (image servers where there can be 30-40k new or changed images in an upload). Systems: • Desktops and laptops running Windows XP Pro • Servers running Server 2003 STD and WEB editions o Web servers, Application servers, File servers, Backup servers, Image servers, Database servers, Ad servers, DNS servers • Two NAS’s (1TB and a 5TB) running Windows Storage Server 2003 STD The NAS’s are for backups so I don’t really have any type of statistics on them, as for backup times that is hard to say as we continually generate more data so we are backing up more every day. "We have been using Diskeeper for several years now as part of our strategy to keep machines performing up their capabilities. We have a mixed environment with lots of Windows servers as well as many Windows XP and Vista workstations. We use a NetApp backend for the storage of our databases. We run a lot of SQL in our environment and we have to keep those servers performing at a high level and Diskeeper helps with this. It is nice to go to a machine and open Diskeeper and find that the machine is completely defragged. I never find one that needs defragging. This is due to the ability of Diskeeper to run in the background and its InvisiTasking ability to not take up much on the resource side. For us it really came down to what Diskeeper does. If a disk has to spin 5 times to get the data, that can be a slowdown. With Diskeeper, everything is defragged and the systems perform better. I would recommend Diskeeper to anyone as it helps keep our machines in a healthy state. It’s nice to know that fragmentation is never the problem when diagnosing machine issues and Diskeeper helps us keep it that way.” "

"I have been pleased so far with Diskeeper with InvisiTasking and have deployed it on all Windows PCs and Servers. Users don't notice it running and I no longer have to set defrag schedules. I do run Diskeeper on a Windows storage server with about a terabyte of date. It is operational and has run fine. Diskeeper was deployed via the administrative console, and had no problems to speak of. I really like the central-based management of the Diskeeper Administrator and of the remote installation packages. I like being able to see what their disk allocation looks like remotely. I keep a finite number of servers for redundancy situations. I am hoping to reduce performance-based HelpDesk calls and to speed up our servers a bit. We run 24/7 and things can get a bit fragmented over time. I like the download option for Diskeeper software. No need to have the media sitting around. And my sales rep was extremely helpful during the entire process. "

"We use Undelete on all of our Servers. Actually that is because we love it! Saved more bacon from the fire, if you get my meaning. In one situation, we have an AD/DC Server 2003 with documents shared on it; an Exchange Server 2007; SQL Server 2008; and Terminal Server 2003, 45 users internal, 15 users external. Accidents happen all the time, deletions, moving of folders, overwriting files. All these things are quickly restored, even versions! As you are aware, backups are great and we have them; daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. We can and have restored from these as well. With backups however, you cannot recover items between last night's backup and the work production all day to the instance where something happened. With Undelete you can. Yeah! This is a great product and we INSIST that clients have this option as one of their disaster recovery items. "

"I would be happy to give references for Diskeeper. I purchased the Diskeeper EnterpriseServer edition because I had drives larger than 2TB. I have two machines running the EnterpriseServer version of Diskeeper: Machine 1: Windows XP 64-bit, 1TB array and 6.5TB array Machine 2: Windows Enterprise Server 2008, 700GB array, 2.7TB array, 2.7TB array, 11TB array, 22TB array. All of my storage is direct attach. I have 28 port RAID cards on both my workstation and my server. I'm actually moving away from the high port count RAID cards and going to SAS expanders within 16 drive storage enclosures as it's easier to manage. I can just daisy chain through the expanders to add more storage. Between my workstation and my server I have ~40TB right now. We're contemplating building another server that will likely have about another 20TB on it. The majority of our files tend to be large (1-4 GB) so reading a 4GB file that is in 100 pieces versus contiguous makes a big difference. I actually have some backup files that are >700GB. Similar to video files but they're not video, they're data files. I also have Diskeeper ProPremier running on all my grad students machines. They probably don't notice as much of a difference because they're not working with the type of data I am. However, for the money, I'll put some version of Diskeeper on every Windows machine that I manage because I know it makes a difference. "

"Diskeeper for the most part is completely transparent to the users. The upgrade was easy and we encountered no problems with the PC’s at our company. The standard PC has 2 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive. We do consider Diskeeper a vital tool because it keeps us from having to worry about doing defrags when everything else has gone wrong. We set our deployment up to Automatic Defrag and it does a great job. Absolutely! We have seen performance and reliability improvements. I can’t tell you how long we’ve had Diskeeper, but I’ve been in this department since we only had the native Windows defrag that was dependent on having the user do manual defragmentation. Diskeeper has completely done away with trouble calls for slow performance that were attributed to heavily fragmented drives. I probably don’t have to tell you that a full defrag took the better part of a day to run. As I said we don’t even have to consider fragmentation to be an issue if we get calls for slow performance. " We currently deploy Diskeeper on our corporate file servers with SAN. Our virtualization infrastructure of choice is VMware. As you can probably imagine, in a company of 11,000+ employees we have a great deal of file storage that is accessed frequently. We find the Diskeeper tool extremely useful as it allows us to help streamline and improve the accessibility of user data without a great deal of administrative intervention. "
