Undelete for Windows 7 / Server 2008r2 - more info

Our developers are currently working on updating Undelete 2009 to support Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2. We expect the update to be available in early-to-mid December 2009. If no major changes are required, it should release in the early part of that month. If we discover a need to make more significant changes to Undelete, we'll run a field test, and release sometime later that month.

I run Server 2008r2 as my main production system and have been running early versions of Undelete for several months - without experiencing any major issues. So, I'm optimistic we'll get this update out soon.

Hi Didier,

We do field tests if we believe there is a need for it. Presently the scope of changes is minimal and we feel they can be fully tested and certified in-house. On a positive note, that does suggest an early December release.

I installed the trial version fine on win7, then when I bought the software it would not install at all...

That's odd that trialware would install? You are welcome to return it (under warranty) or, if you are okaying waiting, and update will be available in the next few weeks.

Waiting anxiously for the new version of Undelete, which saved me lots of times in the past with its clever file-catching. Hope you've ironed out the "no delete confirmation dialog when deleting files manually on the desktop" bug of the 2009/Vista (not XP) version.

Hey Michael, any chance this update is ready to launch? I had purchased this software a couple weeks ago in preparation for my file server migration and just now found out that 2008 R2 is not supported (I only saw that 64-bit 2008 was supported). I was hoping to have Undelete installed with the migration (12/20/09), but now it appears that I will have to install Undelete post-migration.

Thoughts?

Oh, and just out of curiosity, what is it about 2008 R2 that prevents use of Undelete when a 64-bit version of 2008 works fine?

Hi Zach,

It looks more like the release will be after your migration. Ultimately the effort to port Undelete to R2 are more about due diligence than changes to the code. The delay is in testing it thoroughly; in our labs and in the field.

Hey Michael,
Thanks for responding. Do you know if you are still targeting a 2009 release for this update, or will it be afterwards? I'm just trying to figure out how long we will be operating in production without the benefit of this software, as we do "restores" on a daily basis and will have to resort to our tape system until the update is released (way slower).

I completely understand about testing it thoroughly, and appreciate your commitment to quality. If you are looking for any field testing volunteers for this update, please don't hesitate to contact me.

The update has been delayed to mid/late January. I recommend contacting Tech Support or your Account Manager for details on availability.

Hi there. I have also purchased Undelete 2009, but also have W2K8R2 to deploy with it. My purchase of the software is almost 4 months ago. So any news to when this version will be make available is more than welcome.

PS: I am from Aruba, but my country is not showing up in the list.

It's mid February 2010 and still no Windows Server 2008 R2 support. Any news when we can get it. Like everyone else we bought this month's ago.
